Public Employees' Health Insurance Plan (PEEHIP)


PEEHIP Wellness Program
– A voluntary program, available during work hours at no cost to PEEHIP members.

Members and covered dependents will be eligible to participate in free health screenings, osteoporosis screenings and flu vaccines provided by the Public Health Department nurses. The wellness screenings are intended to assist employees and their families identify health risks and receive early and necessary treatment and ultimately lower healthcare costs.

Beginning October 1, 2012, PEEHIP will no longer offer the Weight Watchers at Work Program. The ADPH did not renew their contract with Weight Watchers for the next fiscal year; therefore, the PEEHIP Weight Watchers at Work Program ended September 30, 2012. PEEHIP members who have already started their 15 week program will be allowed to complete the program but PEEHIP will no longer subsidize the cost for any new applications. Please be aware that this does NOT affect the PEEHIP Wellness Program that is administered by ADPH. The PEEHIP Wellness screenings and flu shots will continue to be covered at 100% with no copayment or deductible. Scale Back Alabama – A statewide contest held the first of each year to encourage Alabamians to get healthier by losing weight and exercising.  This year's contest kicks off January 17, 2013, with teams of four competing to lose at least 10 pounds.  Don’t miss out on your opportunity to participate in the upcoming contest.  Get registered during the week of January 19-25, 2013, at the various weigh-in sites located throughout the State.  A new component was added a few years ago that allows school personnel the opportunity to be healthy role models for their students by participating as a Scale Back Alabama School. myBlueCross – Register for myBlueCross, then log in to access health resources, services and other information and benefits.

BeHealthy.Com – An online resource for health information and tools to help you take control of and improve your health.  PEEHIP members get additional services of electronic newsletters and personalized health tools such as health trackers and health assessment.

Baby Yourself – A prenatal program for wellness that offers information about preventive care in the earliest stages of pregnancy.  Go to myBlueCross and click “Baby Yourself” from the quick links on the right side of your screen.  To enroll in the program, log in to myBlueCross, click “Health & Wellness” from the menu bar at the top of your screen, and then click the Baby Yourself link. Alabama Tobacco Quitline – Call toll-free 800-QUIT-NOW (800.784.8669) or go online at www.alabamaquitnow.com to get started saving money on your PEEHIP premiums but most importantly, improving your health!  The quitline is a free service for all Alabamians who want to quit tobacco. 

Flu Shots – Flu shots are covered under the PEEHIP Wellness Program and at your doctor’s office. Click here to learn more about coverage information and where to get your flu shot.

Zostavax (Shingles Vaccine) – Learn more about Zostavax, a single dose vaccine used to prevent shingles in patients 60 years and older.

Walking Works - for everyone in a lot of ways!  People of any fitness level – from beginner to advanced – can benefit from walking.  Learn more about the program and how to get started.

Disease Management – A BCBS program that helps our members manage their chronic conditions including diabetes (types I and II), asthma (adult and pediatric), COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), congestive heart failure, and coronary artery disease.  You, or a covered dependent, may be identified as a potential participant for this program if diagnosed with any of these conditions.  Identified members will receive a letter through the mail from BCBS explaining the program and a form to complete if they would like to participate.  There is no cost, and participation is completely voluntary and confidential.  To learn more, log in to myBlueCross then click “Health & Wellness”.

Blue365 Program - Blue365 offers information, products and services to help you make decisions about health and wellness, family care, and health away from home.  This program also offers access to discounts and savings that are available to PEEHIP members directly from independent vendors on products and services for healthy lifestyles. Log in to myBlueCross then click “myBlueCross”.

MyPyramid.gov – One size doesn’t fit all, so MyPyramid offers personalized eating plans and interactive tools to help you plan and assess your food choices.  It also gives advice to help you  make smart choices from every food group; find your balance between food and physical activity; get the most nutrition out of your calories; and stay within your daily calorie needs.

BMI Calculator – Calculate your body mass index (BMI).  Just enter your weight and height and click “Compute BMI”.
