PEEHIP offers two flexible spending accounts (FSA) to all active employees - the Health Care and the Dependent Care Spending Accounts. Flexible spending accounts can provide you with a tax break on your regular, predictable out-of-pocket costs.

Here's how a flex account works - It's easy as 1, 2, 3:

  1. You contribute pre-taxed dollars into your flex account via payroll deduction.
  2. You submit eligible expenses for reimbursement throughout the year.
  3. The money you paid out-of-pocket is reimbursed to you from your flex account.

Health Care FSA

Enroll if you have:

 

Hospital, medical, dental, vision or prescription drug expenses not covered by your insurance

 

Expenses associated with the care of your children or other dependents, such as an elderly parent or disabled child or spouse, while you work or attend school full-time


Contribute this much each year:

 

Annual maximum of $5,000

Annual minimum of $120

 

Annual maximum of $5,000, or $2,500 if you and your spouse file income taxes separately

Annual minimum of $120


Be reimbursed for these expenses:

 

Copayments and deductibles for prescription drugs, doctors visits, hospital stays and dental work

Vision care

Other eligible health care expenses as defined by the IRS

 

Licensed nursery school and day care facilities for children

Child care in or outside of your home

Day care for an elderly or disabled dependent

Use your flex account for expenses incurred between:

 

October 1 and December 15 (of the following year)

 

October 1 and September 30

 

Be sure to incur your expenses by these deadlines so that you do not forfeit any unused money in your accounts


File your claims for reimbursement by:

 

January 15 (which is 105 days after the end of the plan year)

View your flex account balances online:

 

Go to www.bcbsal.org/peehip1

Log in (i.e. enter your user id and password)

Click the ‘Flex Spending Health Reimbursement’ link to view your Account Summary and Transaction History

Enroll in flex accounts during Flex Open Enrollment:
